In 2007 the first EMDR training took place in Kenya. Unlike other EMDR projects worldwide, Kenya has always involved permanent locally based EMDR therapists. This enabled solid local knowledge, trust, cultural adaptation, local supervision and EMDR practice in traumatised populations immediately after training. This contributes significantly to the success of EMDR Kenya, which has become firmly established.

In the meantime, 219 therapists have been trained in Trauma Basics and Level 1, 93 in Level 2 and 20 as supervisors. This includes several trainees from other African countries.

With the current training of 11 supervisors from East Africa only local trainers are missing to make EMDR Kenya independent. For the last phase of the supervisor training, especially for Ethiopian therapists and for the training of trainers, the finances of Trauma AID are still needed.
